Hartlepool v Darlington - at Barnard Castle!

2nd July 2012

Hartlepool's Harte Lodge No4217 and Darlington's St Oswald Lodge No4260 held their annual Darts & Dominoes competition with, this year, a Pool challenge thrown in for good luck.

Last year's event supported the 'Help for Heroes' charity chosen by Harte Lodge. This year, the choice of St Oswald's WM Andy Watson was St John's Primary School, Darlington, where the children write letters and fill shoe boxes with sweets, toiletries and other Christmas Day treats for dispatch to those of 5Regt. Royal Artillery - based at nearby Catterick Garrison - serving on the front line in Afghanistan.

In return, the soldiers send back pictures and letters to the children and visit them 2-3 times a year joining with them in PE lessons and assemblies.

The event was again a great success with £200 raised by the 21 Masons who took part. St Oswald triumphed as overall winners of all competitions this year and the trophy was presented by Harte Lodge's WM Colin Wilson to his counterpart Andy Watson.

Colin thanked WBro Duncan Maw - a member of both Lodges - for organising the event and host and landlord, WBro Dave Lee of Longscar Lodge No6203 for the food and use of facilities at The Beaconsfield Hotel in Barnard Castle. Both Lodges were especially grateful for support from other Hartlepool Masons Dave Pearce, Andrew Stephenson and Dave Green, the last of these picking up the individual dominoes prize!
